A.R.G is responsible for the earthworks, the surface and deep drainage and the paving for the Anglo American processing plant.Sophisticated project and quality management techniques and state-of-art technologies are being used for the works due to the peculiarities of the soil, which is largely composed of quartzite.
The plant is located 180 km from Belo Horizonte and covers an area of 1 million m². It will process ore before this is transported by the 525 km ore pipeline to the Açu Superport in São João da Barra (RJ), on the north coast of Rio de Janeiro.
The works began in June 2009 and are due to end in 2012. Over 7 million m³ of earthworks have already been completed. More than 20 bulldozers of 20 to 65 tonnes, model CAT D6T crawler tractors and 6 CAT D8T crawler tractors were mobilized to achieve the deadlines and requirements of Anglo American.
